A Week With Baryshnikov

Ever since i was a young girl, I've had this obsession with Mikail Baryshnikov. As a young ballet dancer, he inspired me to further develop my skills and find my inner passion. The picture above is an exquisite model of the magnitude of his abilities.

"I really reject that kind of comparison that says, Oh, he is the best. This is the second best. There is no such thing."-Baryshnikov

Simply put, there's no such thing as a better dancer over the next. as long as you have the desire and willingness to express what is inside of you through the use of the movement your body is capable, you are a dancer. You don't have to make a career out of it, but rather use your body as an instrument of your own personal self expression. I think everyone is filled with some sort of "fire" inside of them that is waiting to get out, and with dance, the flame can flow out. As soon as the passion of the dancer is gone, the flame is finally burnt out. Don't ever lose the flame.

It was an honor to get to meet him, even if it was for only a grand total of 30 seconds. I'll always remember having brought the smile out of him, despite his lack of a good mood. I suppose it must have been somewhat refreshing seeing a young dancer there, at least 35 years younger than the majority of the crowd there.
